On Thursday, Allegheny Health Network named two new chief nursing officers at its St. Vincent, Grove City and Allegheny General hospitals — Jill M. Muir and Heather Ambrose.
Muir will become CNO at both AHN St. Vincent hospital and AHN Grove City hospital effective July 14, while Ambrose will take over CNO duties at AHN Allegheny General on June 23.
Muir’s appointment comes due to her track record of leadership experience and quality patient care. Most recently, she served as CNO for Penn Highlands’ DuBois, Clearfield, and Brookville hospital locations and led initiatives such as trauma services, infection control, and nurse retention.
“Jill’s commitment to nursing excellence and her leadership experience will be invaluable to AHN St. Vincent and Grove City Hospital,” Dr. Chris Clark, President, AHN St. Vincent and Grove City said in a statement. “We are confident that she will foster a culture of compassion, innovation, and collaboration, ultimately enhancing the patient experience and supporting our nursing staff.”
Muir holds several degrees in the nursing field, including a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, a Master of Science in Health Services Leadership, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and a diploma in Nursing.
Along with Muir’s qualifications for the role, AHN is also confident with its appointment of Ambrose due to her background in health care leadership.
As part of that background, Ambrose has experience in project management, nursing administration, and clinical excellence. She also previously served as the director of nursing at UPMC Magee-Women’s hospital where she was able to foster a culture focused on employee engagement, quality, and patient safety.
While at Magee, she worked to improve nursing turnover and honed her skills in planning and leadership.
Currently, she holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, as well as several certifications, including Nurse Executive, Advanced, and Certified in Executive Nursing Practice.
“We are thrilled to welcome Heather to AHN, where she and Jill will join our talented group of more than 6,000 nurses and nurse leaders, all of whom are committed to building and sustaining AHN’s reputation for nursing excellence,” Angela Costa, Chief Nurse Executive, AHN said in a statement. “I look forward to working with them as we collaborate with caregivers across the network to provide exceptional care for our communities and support our Living Health clinical model.”
