Our Work

Partnership members meet by video chat on a biweekly basis to discuss issues of common interest as well as to consider collaborative reporting project proposals. Members also hold quarterly in-person networking and social gatherings.

Financial support from the Henry L. Hillman Foundation and The Heinz Endowments has been used equitably to support local journalism. Money is used for:

  • Projects at individual news outlets that support the overall ecosystem because they add value, cover original topics and expand coverage.
  • Projects by two or more news outlets. Grants of up to $5,000 are available to partners that collaborate on stories that benefit the local community and the partner outlets, which will share and distribute or broadcast the finished products.
  • Small capital projects.
  • Internship programs to create pathways for young journalists.
  • Training and educational programs for membership partners.

The Partnership also has invested in equipment that the Partners and other local media outlets may use on an as-needed basis. This includes a field camera, audio equipment and all of the support materials (tripods, bags, etc.). These items are now based at the new Downtown Media Hub in the Benedum-Trees Building.
