Leonard Quimby will be biking for a good cause in August.
The former Neshannock resident will bike 25 miles through Pittsburgh to raise money for seniors who need care but have outlived financial resources.
All proceeds will go toward Concordia Lutheran Ministries’ Good Samaritan Endowment fund, which offers services for seniors in need.
Quimby is Concordia’s director of facility-based operations. A board chair for the organization, Jim Wolf, will join him on this ride.
Concordia, based in Cabot, calls itself one of the largest senior care providers in the region. Its home nurses have been serving Lawrence County residents since the 1880s.
“I’m happy that I can do something like this bike ride to give back in some small way myself,” Quimby said. “It’s a joy to work for an organization that values compassion and faith.”
The bike ride is raising money through monetary gifts and pledges.
“Supporters can pledge donations of any amount, for example, $2 per mile, or offer prayers for the safety and success of the journey,” Quimby said.
Quimby grew up in New Castle and has enjoyed bicycling since childhood.
“It was my only form of transportation back then,” he said.
“Now I enjoy getting out to enjoy some fresh air while squeezing in a workout.”
Though his fundraising bike ride will take place in the city, Quimby claimed Lawrence County offers great trails.
“I enjoy the country roads mostly due to less traffic and to catch the beautiful scenery,” he said.
