As of Friday, 17 more Rite Aid locations in the Pittsburgh area are set to transfer their customer prescriptions to Giant Eagle Pharmacy. This plan comes on the heels of the news that the drug store is closing 78 of their stores in western Pennsylvania.
Two Rite Aid locations in the area also will be rebranded as Giant Eagle Pharmacy stores, while others are being put on the market for sale.
The closures began on May 5, when Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy for the second time in two years. Now, the drug store chain is currently working on closing 360 stores throughout the United States. With the closures, the Philadelphia-based company will likely lose its status as one of the largest drug stores chains in the country.
Prescription transfers in the Pittsburgh area will go into effect between June 10-13. All prescriptions currently held at Rite Aid locations will be transferred to the Giant Eagle pharmacy closest to them.
