Pittsburgh Parks and Recreation has opened six cooling centers in various neighborhoods as the city experiences a heat wave.

The National Weather Service reported that Pittsburgh, among various other U.S. cities, is at risk of “extreme” heat. This heat wave is Pittsburgh’s longest in years.  A heat advisory is in place until Friday, June 21, but it may be upgraded as more information is available.

Temperatures every day this week were predicted to reach the mid-90s. The heat index, which combines predicted temperatures with predicted humidity, was set to reach triple digits.

The CitiParks cooling centers are activated when the weather is forecasted to reach 90 degrees and higher. For specific information on locations and hours for the cooling centers, visit https://presentepgh.com/pittsburgh-opens-cooling-centers-amid-week-long-heat-wave/

Remaining in cool air-conditioned buildings, drinking lots of water, and staying out of the sun are just a few ways Pittsburghers can stay safe this week and beat this heat.
