Is Pittsburgh’s weird terrain making the already-dodgy air quality even dodgier?

Pittsburgh’s unique terrain may be exacerbating its already poor air quality, according to a consortium of media outlets including The Allegheny Front and The Incline. The city’s hills and valleys can trap pollutants, leading to pockets of particularly bad air quality. This is compounded by the presence of industrial facilities in the area, such as U.S Steel’s Clairton Coke Works. Local activists are calling for increased regulation and enforcement to improve air quality in the region.
